Ed Asner: It was an honor

I am profoundly sad that my dear friend and collaborator, ED ASNER, has died. I am devastated and will miss him greatly. A number of years ago, I convinced Ed that he should tell his story and from those discussions came his autobiography, Son of a Junkman, which I co-wrote. www.amazon.com/...

Ed Asner was a progressive’s progressive. He always stood for the underdog, for civil rights and social justice.

Phil Proctor (of Firesign Theater fame) and I wrote God Help Us (www.GodHelpUs.net) with Ed in mind and he was performing it around the country as recently as this summer. Ed played God moderating a debate between a liberal and a conservative. Interestingly, most conservatives did not find the play biased - despite Ed, Phil and my liberal politics. We really did the best we could to show both sides.

I loved talking to Ed, working with him, being razzed by him, just being in his company. My condolences to Liza, his amazing daughter and producer, and to the rest of the Asner family…and to the millions who will miss Ed’s humor and courage.

I am a lucky man to have had the honor and privilege of working with Ed and having him as my friend. We have all lost a great artist and humanitarian today.
