Today, Tuesday Jan 8th — voters will go to the polls in Virginia for a very important special election that has seemingly received little news — drowned out by all of the awfulness of the shutdown, etc.
Apologies if I’ve missed other blogs on this — but very important for our community to be aware of this election. It’s for a vacated Virginia Senate seat (formerly held by now U.S. Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D), who defeated Barbara Comstock this year for the national seat).
Jennifer Boysko (D) is facing off against Joe May (R). If you want to learn more about the election, here’s a link from the Loudoun Times-Mirror, a local media source in Va.
Del. Boysko is a wonderful candidate and terrific human being — moral, energetic, progressive — and importantly, a victory here would TIP THE SENATE to the Dems, as it would lead to a 50-50 tie. Given that the Governor’s seat is held by Team Blue, this would be a major advance for Progressive politics in Virginia.
Here’s a link to the Boysko campaign site. If you live in Virginia, or know people who do — make them aware and get them to the polls! I’m sure there is a need for last minute phone calls, door signage and other activities. I live in PA, so the best I can do is post a blog — I wish I could get out and knock on doors!
